Eats: Star Pub & Carvery, Congresbury

We were very kindly invited to the (re)opening night at The Star Pub & Carvery in Congresbury recently. They’ve just had a phenomenal, three week £650k refurbishment, and it shows! I had wondered would it be ready on time (how can anything on such a large scale take such a short period of time!?) but when we visited it was absolutely pristine.

Everything looked fresh, clean, and beautifully decorated for Christmas. Olly and the team were raring to welcome us, everyone was super friendly, the fire was roaring and there is a huge variety of food on offer with something to please everyone.

The Star is part of the Greene King group and so prices are reasonable with offers available. You can find the full menu here. You’ll notice that in addition to the regular food menu you’ll find at Greene King venues, The Star operates a carvery. Your chef will carve your Turkey, beef or gammon then you can help yourself to the trimmings.

It’s worth nothing that Blue Light Card holders receive 20% off food (which isn’t already discounted)! So you could enjoy a small roast for as little as £4.79 (with Blue Light) or a large from £7.99 (or £9.99 without the discount.) Bear in mind prices do increase at weekends. Altogether though, we had:

🖤 Crispy Chilli Beef

🖤 Garlic Breaded Mushrooms

🖤 Brie Wedges

🖤 Cheesey Garlic Bread

A Selection of Small Plates (3 for £11.50) Plus the garlic bread with cheese.

🖤 Steak & Cheese Fondue

🖤 Carvery Gammon Bap with extra pigs in blankets

🖤 Kids Nuggets, Chips & Beans

🖤 Kids Strawberry Ice Cream

🖤 Ultimate Chocolate Lava Cookie

🖤 Warm Chocolate Fudge Cake

We were looked after brilliantly by the staff, nothing was too much trouble and the pub itself was warm and cosy (thank goodness as it was during that really cold snap!!).

Are you a carvery fan? Have you been to The Star before? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks,

Lizzie xxx
