Eats: The Blue Flame, Near Nailsea

I’m not sure if I’ll get in trouble with the locals for telling you this, but I know where you can find some of North Somersets best pizza…

It’s at the Blue Flame (between Nailsea & Clevedon) on a Thursday and Friday night!

Running since the summer, pizza (and pie) nights at the Blue Flame feature lovingly prepared sourdough bases (with a hint of honey, so sadly not vegan), which can be made gluten free if the team are given 48 hours notice.

Toppings range from the classics (margherita or pepperoni) to the more speciality… For example homemade beef brisket with blue cheese and béchamel.

A lot of the food at the Blue Flame is homemade with love and care. Their sausage rolls and scotch eggs are delicious, and I’ve heard the pies and roast dinners are impressive too!

But it’s not a gastro pub… It’s a ‘proper pub’. It’s not ‘fancy’, it’s ‘traditional’. You might feel a little like you’ve stepped back in time going in, but in the good way that feels familiar and comforting.

It’s run by a real family, and the higgledy piggledy lay out reminds you it’s their real home.

So food isn’t always available (check their Instagram or Facebook before heading over if that’s what you’re after!) but when it is, because of the attention it’s been given, it’s special.

To complement this they have a great selection of beers, ales and ciders and the staff are all super friendly. I’m a big fan of the Devon Red by Sandford Orchards.

Tonight (2nd November) is actually the third ‘Turntable Thursday’ and you can take your own vinyls! It’s just a feel good place, and I wish we lived closer (although it’s probably good for my bank balance/waist line that we don’t).

Thank you for reading!
