We went for a family Sunday lunch recently at what may be the largest indie pub in the Bristol area to try out their new menu.

Ad š½ļø The Inn at Yanleigh, Bridgwater Road, BS13 8AG
The kids (being 15, 13, and 4) can turn their nose up at certain flavours on occasion, but I was pleased (read: shocked & surprised) that they actually gave everything a go 𤯠and more importantly, enjoyed!! We had:

Pea, Spinach & Ricotta Arancini
Korean Crispy Chicken
Chilli & Honey Halloumi Chips
Lebanon Falafel

Cheesey Garlic Bread
Kids Chicken Nuggets, Chips & Beans

Butcombe Battered Fish & Chips

Charlieās Rustic Cottage Pie

The Yanleigh Beef Burger

Large Roast Dinner (Chicken/Pork)

Chocolate Fudge Cake

Oreo Waffle

Apple & Berry Biscoff Crumble

Kids Pancakes, Ice Cream & Chocolate Sauce
If youāve followed me for a while youāll know I have an arancini obsession. I was a little sceptical of these as they usually come with a blue cheese sauce (š¤¢) but having seen my face, the lovely Tina suggested swapping for garlic aioli which was genius as it was delicious. I do prefer ātraditionalā Arancini, but these were pretty darn good, and I was mildly annoyed when a certain (usually very gentlemanly) Mr Eats.Explores ate the last one without checking with me š

The starters were all beautifully presented giving off āsmall platesā/sharing vibes. In fact such was the level of presentation Iām still in a state of shock that the teens ate it all š

Admittedly some of the garnish etc was left but not a lot else! Chicken and the halloumi were the kids favourites (I didnāt even know they ate halloumi!?! š¤Ŗ).

I think the falafel was probably the surprise hit for me. I donāt usually go for vegan dishes but it was a great combination of flavours the tomatoes were literally bursting with joy. (Oh and surprisingly it was gluten free too!).

For mains (yes I had room) I went for the Cottage Pie, which was excellent comfort food as I had the beginning of an epic cold (now in its second week!) Tons of veg came with it, which I have to admit defeated me, but I wanted room for my pudding… š I chose the Chocolate Fudge Cake as I felt like it has been (unfairly!!) out of fashion for a while. When I was a teen it used to be on the menu everywhere so I needed my fix⦠I had it warmed up (ofc) with ice cream. Demolished the lot and didnāt share – delicious, 100% needs to make a come back!

Mr Eats.Explores had the roast but was unable to decide which meat he wanted, so they kindly allowed him both the chicken and pork. Heās notoriously fussy with roasts but had no complaints and was impressed with the portion size. Miss Eats.Explores loved her nuggets and the boys enjoyed their mains too (nothing was left behind despite us having had starters!). The three of them are becoming garlic bread connoisseurs and this passed their test too!
Eldest teen was a greedy guts like me and opted for his own pudding – and now wants to recreate the biscoff crumble at home having enjoyed so much! I nabbed a mouthful of the Oreo waffle (shared by the middle ‘children’ – Dad and T) and was impressed, would consider ordering myself next time. Waffles in the UK I usually find too chewy and obviously reheated, but this one was a nicer consistency tasting fresh and a great combo of toppings.

The pub itself has been attractively refurbished. Itās big (400 covers) with lots of natural light (floor to ceiling windows) and also has an outdoor terrace with sunset and suspension bridge views. When ordering, you get drinks at the bar and order food from a separate counter. This gives it a laid back feeling but not an issue for us. Just don’t forget to check out the specials board before heading up with your selections!!

Itās an easy run from Clevedon (25 mins) but would be even easier from our South Bristol (10 minutes). Plenty of parking onsite and itās near the airport (with onsite accommodation) too, if you have parents like mine or visitors who like to stay or eat nearby before heading off on their holidays. The service was great and all of the staff very friendly.

Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes – Ā£15.50 for the (large) fish and chips or burger, Ā£16.95 for the large roast, Ā£7.50ish for a dessert (though if you visit 3pm to 6pm Mon to Fri your dessert is only Ā£5 with a main course). There’s no kids meal deal but mains are reasonably priced at Ā£5 and then you have the option of adding a starter or dessert if you wish, so similar to what’s on offer elsewhere.

Charlie and the team have put a lot of effort into creating a menu with a variety of home cooked favourites and interesting twists on classic dishes. I’d say it’s an easy venue for casual family dining.
Thanks for reading,
