Chatting with a friend recently, and we were debating the latest time you could reasonably have brunch?

📍 Weekend Brunch at Rick’s Bar, Prince Street, Farr’s Lane, Bristol
We came to the conclusion it was around 2pm, unless you were worse for wear from the night before (do I remember those days?! 🧐) when later would be acceptable…

Luckily brunch at Ricks is served from 10am until 3pm on Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays so you have choices. We however visited at half 11 on a Sunday, because there’s live music between 11am and 2pm and live music is one of my favourite things 🎶

We had:
🍳 @buxtonbutchersbristol pulled ham hock Benedict
🧀 Grilled Croque Madame, @godminster cheddar rarebit
🥚 Omelette Arnold Bennett minus the haddock (no pic 🤦🏼♀️)
🥔 Triple cooked chips with Parmesan
🐷 Chorizo croquettes
🍸 Hemingway Margarita – Volcán de mi Tierra Tequila Blanco, Cointreau l’Unique, Lime, Grapefruit
☕️ Coffee & Banana – Eminente Reserva 7-Year-Old Rum, Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, Espresso, Banana served on the rocks
🍫 Chocolate nemesis, spiced rum sauce
💛 Buttermilk panna cotta, boozy rhubarb o warm gingerbread

So it’s not somewhere that’s ‘meant for kids’ but our babysitter fell through… No problem though team couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating, happily changing the omelette and even the wonderful Johnny Edgar who was performing (and doesn’t usually take requests) indulged her Swiftie side with a great rendition of ‘Shake it Off’. I’d probably rather go with adults next time, (the cocktails and decor give it a boujiee vibe) but still really enjoyed.

Food wise, the chocolate nemesis was a highlight – it had a torte texture but without the base (this pastry hater was thrilled) and the ‘spiced rum’ was giving serious caramel tones. I’d go back just to have this (to check it’s on the regular menu!).

My Eggs Benedict was tasty (loved the Buxton ham hock, usually go salmon, this is a great alternative) but if you have a big appetite you may be surprised to see it’s just the one muffin and egg. I was happy though as it’s still reasonable for the price (£7) and meant I had room for the croquettes, chips, and I didn’t need to share dessert 😋’![]()
In addition to music on Sundays, they also have live music on a Thursday evening. Personally I really enjoy live music (why I volunteer with Clevedon Live Music, give them a follow folks!), so it definitely added to my experience and I’d be interested to go back and try the evening menu when it’s on. If you prefer things a little quieter though you might want to visit another evening, or sit outside on their fabulous terrace!

There was a little wind when we visited and Madame cannot tolerate it but it has to be one of the best spots in Bristol for people watching. Actually in my twenties, many an evening after work was spent here quaffing cocktails and enjoying the view of the harbourside towards Pero’s bridge (aka The Horny Bridge).

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed, even Miss B. (She especially liked the pudding with brunch part). The music really made it for me so I’d made an effort to come back when it’s on. It’s in a great central location so easy to combine with a Bristol day (or night!) out.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. You can book brunch at Rick’s here.
Have a great weekend!
